That was horrendous. Everton did their job well of frustrating us and sitting back but we never even looked like having the guile to cut them open at any point which is criminal considering how shit they are.

We were extremely sloppy and bereft of any attacking ideas. Made lots of silly mistakes and ultimately one got punished.

Bowen, Antonio, Paqueta all anonymous. Kudus is the only player to come out of that game with any sort of credit. Maybe Areola as well for a few other decent saves to spare further blushes. JWP maybe the only other who wasn't awful.

A very poor 7 days. I said it on Thursday and I'll say it again. It feels like something has happened behind the scenes.

Watched it out in Athens with a few West Ham who were still out there, all massively deflated having seen us rest nearly the whole team against Olympiacos for this game and then put out that level of performance again. I was excited with that line up and although we started ok, quickly allowed ourselves to get bullied over the park.
Seems like same old problems all the time with Moyes. Another season we've gone in with a poor set of full backs and no decent striker. How many more windows do we need to sort this out? We haven't been able to cross a ball for ages now outside of set pieces. How can Mubama be any worse than Antonio or Ings? Can't say I'm looking forward to the Arsenal game ..

Watch the better teams and they use possession and overloading the flanks via wing backs to stretch teams like Everton and us to get in behind hem or create the spaces or gaps.

Moyes only has Emerson capable of playing that way and does not set up that way typically. Fortunately Emerson’s natural instinct is to get forward. Coufal yesterday did try but his technical limitations were exposed again with some dreadful crossing and passing on the occasions he got wide

Coufal, Zouma, Soucek, Antonio and Benrahma all not good enough passers of a football. Carrying 2 or more of them in a team will weaken you as you give away possession too cheaply and too often.

Nice post. It’s clear to me that we are now reverting to the team of last year, players don’t look like they’re enjoying their football. My biggest worry is if it’s Sullivan to bring in the next manager, I know he has a DOF but whilst managers like Steve Bruce are still out there 😳. Mind you has Benitez got a job yet, he’d be the short term appointment that’s loved.

I agree that picking out individuals is unfair insofar as collectively we are putting in performances that are worse than the sum of our individual parts.

One thing that is happening is that where we were taking our sparse chances we are now missing them.

yeah agreed, onsideman, and felt a little wrong to respond to that post in that way, but it was just the last post on the thread - wasn't disagreeing as such, i do think we missed |Emerson getting forward, but individually speaking, Cresswell was probably one of our least worst.

Unfortunately not. Suspensions for 5 yellows are competition- specific so they both miss Brentford

Tough to argue with any of that, however without Emerson's energy in supporting and overlapping, the stupidity of playing (and keeping) Pacqueta on the left was so obvious as to be incredible.

"Alvarez shots were laughable."

True. Utterly shocking for a top pro.

And they are suspended for the Arsenal game. Back for Brentford thank fuck. That's an almighty game now.

Awful performance. The usual shit when a shit team turns up, start off quick then slowly drop down to their level and have absolutely no answers when we have more of the ball and have to break them down.

Pass the ball soooooo slowly side to side and then a shit clip forward and just give the ball back to them. Repeat that for about 75-80 mins yesterday.

Alvarez and Coufal were shocking, those 2 Alvarez shots were laughable. Benny when he came on was useless, looks a few kg overweight.

Cresswell doesnt look like he cares. Aguerd and Zouma look shaky as fuck. JWP isnt brave enough on the ball and Paqueta is getting stuck in every position apart from the one where he looks fucking mustard.

We look a mess, can't see anything but 2 defeats from the next 2, especially if Alvarez and Paqueta are missing for Brentford.... or is it weds that they are suspended?

Find myself in an unusual place this morning. Obviously completely aware of the big picture. And I am not the biggest fan of Moyes. But I do feel yesterday the blame was more on the players than Moyes if you take this game in isolation.

We were so wasteful with possession. Early on, Paqueta played a neat chip pass over for Bowen who only had to clip it in but he lacked composure and got nothing on it. Antonio also, quite early ball was cut back and he only needs to direct it in but stutters, tries to control it, and it gets cleared. Bowen again, first half, ball is cut back and instead of hitting it he clips it and it goes nowhere. The second half a neat ball in from JWP finds Bowen at back post and his diving header goes flying over the bar. Kudus, Alavarez and Paqueta all on the end of cut backs only to fire wide or high. Kudus bulldozed his way through to six yards out and only has to pass it in and hits it straight at Pickford.

Defensively we looked comfortable. Our two mistakes saw DCL turn and lose his man and fire home and the other was a mix up which Areola made a great save to deny Decourre. But generally Areola's kicking was fucking woeful and alot of his kicks were ballooning up and floating rather than being hit upfield. And in fact there goal came from one of his shitty kicks.

We got the ball into a some very good positions. But without a real focal point up front (like DCL) we lacked composure and an edge. So many times we got round the back and cut the ball back for it to be wasted with a poor effort or nobody on the end of it.

Problem is, what's the answer? Moyes has started Kudus. He's pulled Antonio from the the game early. He dropped Soucek. In last two games he's given Benny playing time. All of the things that the fans demanded. And we still can't beat a very ordinary Everton team at home.

The game yesterday was summed up perfectly by the radio presenter listening on the way home when he said "Today - Moyes was Out-Moyesed'. And he was. Dyche knew exactly what he was doing. They let us have the ball. And by god what did it prove? Quite clearly that all these amazing superstars that we want let off the leash and to play can't do it anyway. They're obviously not as good as we think they are. Bowen, Paqueta, Kudus, Benrahma, JWP.... All given the lions share of the ball and can't do a fucking thing with it. They lacked guile, composure and direction.

And lets not take anything away from Everton. They know they are ordinary. And they play to it. They looked tight, compact, hard working and very physical. They defended quite high and put pressure on our boys to play well. And we didn't.

I'm not stupid. I know the back story. I know the bigger picture. I've been very critical of Moyes and can see his short-comings virtually every game. I know that the heat for the last three games will be on him. Rightly so. You earn the money and you take the can. But looking at this game in isolation the players must be blamed.

Yes, pushing Paqueta up front was daft. Bringing Ings on was a waste of time against six foot 5 defenders. But I am afraid the players pushed Moyes into those decisions with such a desperately poor attacking performance.

So what for the next game? Does he keep Soucek on the bench? Does he drop Antonio to the bench? Where is Mubama? Bigger picture is, why did we not buy a striker in the summer? Why is Moyes persisting on playing Paqueta out of position? It's very clear that Moyes fails to adapt and integrate players. This squad isn't evolving into something new. It's just new players playing the old way. You've only got to look at Spurs and Villa to see what a decent manager can achieve. Both squads completely transformed under new managers.

Things are looking grim. Moyes must take responsibility. He must energise this squad. If he doesn't then its history repeating itself and our decent start will be a distant memory. With so much supposed talent at his disposal, how long does this go on? Sullivan may have a decision to make sooner rather than later. And this time he needs to make the right decision.

Slow, ponderous and predictable play against a well drilled Everton defence. I never thought they'd score but I never thought we would have in a month of Sundays.
We do need an alternative to hoping a dead ball play will get us a goal.

Re: ⚽ West Ham v Everton - Official Match Thread - Preview
don't disagree that Cresswell is done necessarily, but thought he was just about the least of our problems yesterday.

The two centre backs were atrocious, Paqueta had an off day (although still looked our most likely), JWP has had all of his early season form trained out of him and been converted to a 34 year old Noble role of just making 5 yard passes, Bowen did nothing, Kudus looked decent but flattered to deceive, Antonio was fucking awful, and Benrahma was - as usual - dogshit. Could probably go through the rest of them as well before i landed on cresswell.

Looks to me like history repeating itself.

Strong start with the rest of the season being below average.

Everton surrendered possession and we did not know what to do with the ball.

Thought Emerson was a big miss. Cresswell has been a great servant to this club but he is done. He could not get up the pitch nor get back.

Why we bought Ings I do not know. Even when we are losing Moyes would rather bring Soucek on. Clearly doesn’t rate him at all. Nor does he want to use Mubama. So we are stuck with Antonio until atleast January playing everyweek with the odd attempt at playing a midfielder there.

No Paqueta or Alvarez for the next game.

Things are looking up…

I see the dwarf has told camp Sean . That the 6 game losses on the trot malarkey is still in effect . What a way to run a football club. Nothing at this club will improve while he continues to run the show .

Only saw the last 50 minutes or so and the insipid performance all over the pitch, together with the totally expected nature of the defeat, was truly disheartening. Alarm bells should be blaring throughout the club now as there is no hope of a turnaround with this manager still in place. Short-term is only worse with Paqueta and Álvarez suspended - I’m afraid the rot has well and truly set in.
